Joseph Neu, Founder, President and CEO Contributing Editor, iTreasurer Joseph Neu is the Founder, President and CEO of The NeuGroup. Mr. Neu oversees all NeuGroup leaders and is leading peer knowledge exchange across groups. He sets the strategic direction of the company, evaluating business opportunities and product development, working with business partners and offering guidance on the content and process management aspects of the business. He is also a regular contributor to The NeuGroup’s flagship publication, iTreasurer. Over the course of his career, Mr. Neu has dedicated himself to helping finance professionals learn from one another, improve existing practices and enhance their profession. Since 2001, he has led The NeuGroup in establishing a network of member peer groups, each aimed at professionals with specific functional or regional responsibility, to better facilitate this knowledge exchange. These peer groups have placed him and the company at the forefront of knowledge exchange for treasury functions, and The NeuGroup is actively working to expand this network into other areas of finance. Prior to starting The NeuGroup, Mr. Neu worked in various roles at the Economist Group, serving as Managing Editor of its Finance & Treasury publication (successor to Business International Money Report) and as a Research Analyst on numerous projects involving global treasury, derivatives markets, and overseas business development. He also was a frequent contributor to the finance and treasury events of the New York division of the Economist Conferences. Mr. Neu holds an M.A. in international banking and finance from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs and a B.A. in political science from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He lives with his wife and two boys in South Salem, New York. |
Anne Friberg, Senior Director, Peer Knowledge Exchange Contributing Editor, iTreasurer Anne Friberg joined The NeuGroup in February 2006. Ms. Friberg oversees the relationship aspects and the planning and research processes for several existing groups. She also participates in the research processes of other peer groups and writes for The NeuGroup’s flagship newsletter, iTreasurer. Prior to joining The NeuGroup, Ms. Friberg worked for several years in international treasury management with Anheuser-Busch Companies, Inc. in St. Louis, Missouri, where she also held positions in the corporate planning and investor relations departments. Later, she managed the post-IPO investor relations organizations at Amdocs in St. Louis and About.com in New York. As a London-based writer, she published several articles on international finance and treasury management. A Swedish native, Ms. Friberg earned an International M.B.A. from Thunderbird School of Global Management and graduated from the School of Business, Economics and Law at Göteborg University in Sweden. She is multilingual and an avid traveler. |
Ted Howard, Associate Director, Peer Knowledge Exchange Managing Editor, iTreasurer Ted Howard joined The NeuGroup in 2005. He serves as Associate Director of Peer Knowledge Exchange and Managing Editor for iTreasurer and its related website. In this capacity, he works with NeuGroup leaders on the research and content development processes for multiple peer groups and also coordinates the Internal Auditors’ Peer Group (IAPG). Prior to joining The NeuGroup, Mr. Howard was a writer and researcher at Institutional Investor. He has more than 15 years of experience as a journalist covering the financial markets and has worked in various roles in the business and financial communication industry, writing for corporate clients and financial websites. Mr. Howard holds an M.S. from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism and a B.A. in history from Boston University. |
Julie Zawacki-Lucci, Associate Director, Peer Research Contributing Editor, iTreasurer Julie Zawacki-Lucci joined The NeuGroup in August 2015. Ms. Zawacki-Lucci oversees the survey and benchmarking processes across the NeuGroup Network to provide best-practice data for all peer groups. As the leader of NeuGroup Peer Research, she also analyzes trends and related research to create content for iTreasurer, as well as for sponsors and partners. Prior to joining The NeuGroup, Ms. Zawacki-Lucci served as Senior Manager, Capital Markets & Foreign Treasury Operations, at CVS Health Corporation, where she was responsible for capital structure initiatives, global cash management, affiliate capitalization, international investments and bank relationship management. Ms. Zawacki-Lucci also held a variety of key treasury and investor relations positions at Hasbro, Inc. During her time as Manager of Capital Markets at Hasbro, Inc., she was an active member of The Foreign Exchange Managers’ Peer Group. Ms. Zawacki-Lucci holds an M.B.A. from Bryant University and a B.A. in psychology and English from the University of New Hampshire. She is a Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) and currently lives in Rhode Island. |
Ed Scott, Peer Group Consultant Contributing Editor, iTreasurer Ed Scott began his career with Caterpillar as a Finance Analyst in Corporate Treasury in 1981. He held several finance positions before joining Caterpillar Financial in 1986 as Assistant Credit Manager in Baltimore. Mr. Scott then moved to Santiago, Chile, to become Finance Representative for the Southern South America District Office of Caterpillar Americas in 1987. He returned to Peoria in 1990 as Foreign Exchange Administrator in Corporate Treasury and later, Treasurer for Solar Turbines in San Diego, California. Mr. Scott relocated to Nashville in 1996 to become Treasurer of Caterpillar Financial and, in 2002, was appointed Vice President of Cat Financial with responsibility for Marine and Latin American retail finance operations as well as worldwide cross-border transactions. In 2004, he was named Executive Vice President and CFO for the Financial Products Division. He relocated to Peoria to become the Chief Audit Officer in April 2007 and held that position until he assumed his duties as Corporate Treasurer in July 2010. After more than 34 years of service to Caterpillar, Mr. Scott retired April 1, 2016. Mr. Scott holds an M.B.A. from the University of Illinois and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Marquette University. He is a former Chairman and Treasurer for the Tennessee Center for Performance Excellence and previously served on the Executive Committee of the Board of Junior Achievement of Middle Tennessee. He was also a member of the Junior Achievement of Central Illinois, OSF Foundation, Easter Seals Foundation of Central Illinois, FM Global Advisory and Commerce Bank Peoria Advisory boards. He and his wife, Karen, now reside in Franklin, Tennessee. |
Anthony Michels, Director of NeuGroup Knowledge Content Contributing Editor, iTreasurer Antony Michels joins NeuGroup after working for almost three decades as a professional journalist, primarily covering business, markets and finance for major media organizations based in New York. After graduating from the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University, Mr. Michels began his career in print, covering corporate finance for the magazine Investment Dealers’ Digest; he then spent five years as a reporter at Fortune magazine, where he wrote for the magazine’s personal finance section. Mr. Michels made the move to television in the mid-1990s when CNN created the business channel CNNfn, working as a writer, producer and script editor, eventually moving to write and produce stories and shows for CNN business news. Mr. Michels then spent 11 years at Bloomberg Television as a writer and producer and was part of a team that won the 2008 Emmy Award for Outstanding Investigative Reporting for “401(k) Hidden Fees.” His television career continued at Al Jazeera America, where he wrote, produced and edited scripts for shows on business, politics and international affairs hosted by anchor Ali Velshi. Most recently, Mr. Michels spent more than a year at Yahoo Finance, writing and producing livestreamed shows and contributing articles to the website. A native of northern California, Mr. Michels has a BA in English and a minor in French from the University of California at Berkeley. He and his wife live in Brooklyn, New York, and have a daughter attending college. |
